QUEENS, NY — A yellow taxi driver who killed a DoorDash delivery worker while driving the wrong way on a Queens street has been indicted, prosecutors said.

Mohammad Bhuiyan, 48, was arraigned Tuesday on a criminally negligent homicide charge stemming from the death of Antonios Spyropoulus, 59, who died days after a late autumn crash on Northern Boulevard, authorities said.

"The victim was driving to make a food delivery when the defendant allegedly drove on the wrong side of the roadway, hitting the victim head-on and causing severe injuries that ultimately led to his death," said Melinda Katz, district attorney for Queens, said in a statement.

The crash unfolded Nov. 27 about 11:50 p.m., when Bhuiyan drove a Toyota Rav 4 yellow tax off the 59th Street Bridge and onto Northern Boulevard, prosecutors said.

Bhuiyan drove the wrong way along Northern Boulevard's westbound lane for roughly 300 feet before he collided with Spyropoulus, who was driving a scooter, authorities said.

Medics rushed the grievously injured Spyropoulus to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died Dec. 1, officials said.

A grand jury later indicted Bhuiyan on charges of criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving and failing to obey passing safety markers.

Bhuiyan, who pleaded not guilty, is next scheduled to appear in court June 20, records show.
