Springtime brings two events to The Center for Science (CSTL) during the April vacation. On April 7 & 8 CSTL brings back the popular dino egg hunt, a fun activity in which kids who come to the exhibit get an opportunity to hunt for dinosaur filled eggs. Then, starting April 8 (closed Wednesdays), exhibit visitors will enjoy “Animal Week,” an opportunity for people to enjoy free animal shows and meet organizations that work with and help different types of animals.

Organizations participating include: the Second Chance Animal Rescue; Sublime K9 Dog Training; Alley Pond Environmental Center; the NY Marine Rescue Center; Nassau County SPCA; Long Island Rabbit Rescue, Canine Companions Northeast Training Center, Suffolk County Farm and Education Center, Creepy Creatures, Pawsitive Strides, Michael's Pack Dog Training Services, Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, Lend-a-Paw Inc., Jungle Bob's Reptile World, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, Nassau County SPCA, Long Island Parrot Society, Paws of War, NJ Snake Man, New York Equestrian Center Ltd., the Southhampton Animal Shelter Foundation and the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind.

“CSTL seeks to educate people about animal adaptation and conservation. Part of our mission is also to give permanently disabled animals a place to live. Our Animal Adventure exhibit is where children and families see up close and personal some of the wonderful species from around the world. We have emus, owls, bearded dragons, lizards, turtles and more. The Tanglewood Preserve, which surrounds our facility, is also full of bird species and other wildlife,” said Dr. Ray Ann Havasy, Executive Director, CSTL. “Parents and families will get an exclusive in-depth educational experience from nonprofit organizations that will teach them about animals that may not normally be featured in a local exhibit. The wonder of dinosaurs is ever-present in children. We invite all Long Islanders from the young to the young-at-heart to experience the magic of dinosaurs once again or for the very first time at our popular Dinosaurs! Exhibition which has the largest number of animatronic dinosaurs in the Metro NY area.”

The Dinosaurs! And Animal Adventure exhibit focuses on how animals adapt and survive. This is demonstrated through a unique intermixing of dinosaur models and live animals together. It is housed at CSTL’s 35,000 square foot WAC Lighting Hall of Science at its Tanglewood Preserve headquarters located at 1450 Tanglewood Road, in Rockville Centre. School children and families from the New York region and beyond are expected to visit this exhibit annually to experience more than 80 unique displays.

As a science and STEM education-focused not-for-profit organization, CSTL is dedicated to providing people of all ages with a place to engage in both formal and informal learning. CSTL also creates signature corporate programs and delivers educational workshops.
