Four CT Residents In ICE Custody After Jewelry Theft Arrests: Police

The arrests were made in connection with six jewelry thefts between July and November, police say.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY. — Four Bridgeport, CT residents were placed in U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after being arrested Wednesday in connection with a string of jewelry thefts that had taken place across Nassau County, police said.

Nassau County police announced the arrest of Cosmina Caldararu, Laura Calin, Alexendru Dumitru and Constantin Dumitru Thursday, listing the same home address in Bridgeport for all four.

The charges stemmed from six incidents, all of which included one or more of the group removing jewelry from victims, police said. The first incident took place Jul. 28, in which the 39-year-old Caldararu took jewelry from an 18-year-old in Uniondale, police said.

In the second incident on Oct. 3, Caldararu and 41-year-old Constantin Dumitru took jewelry from an 84-year-old man in Baldwin, police said.

The third incident took place Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving, in which Caldararu, the 33-year-old Calin and 36-year-old Alexandru Dumitru took jewelry from a 94-year-old man in Oceanside. Two days later, police said Caldararu, Calin and Alexandru Dumitru took jewelry from a 66-year-old Franklin Square man. The next day, Caldararu, Calin and Alexandru Dumitru took jewelry from a 79-year-old woman in Valley Stream, police said. The day after that, Caldararu and Alexandru Dumitru took jewelry from a 70-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man in Valley Stream, police said.

All four people were arrested, released on appearance tickets and taken into ICE custody Wednesday, police said. Caldararu faces seven counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts of fifth-degree conspiracy, Alexandru Dumitru faces five counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts of fifth-degree conspiracy, Calin faces four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of fifth-degree conspiracy, while Constantin Dumitru faces one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, police said.
