Memorial Day Fireworks Show To Honor Those Who Made Greatest Sacrifice

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead will commemorate Memorial Day with a Fireworks Extravaganza.

The Saturday, May 24 event begins with a color guard presented by the United States Marine Corps League of Port Washington and the Nassau County Police Emerald Society Pipe Band.

A live musical performance by Shot Down Music, a modern country experience will follow, and the evening will culminate with a fireworks display over Hempstead Harbor.

“The Memorial Day fireworks are by far the biggest town event of the year… it’s one everybody loves, but we can’t lose sight of what we’re really celebrating,” said Supervisor Jennifer DeSena. “This is our hometown tribute to the men and women who served and died in our military, and a chance to honor those who made the greatest sacrifice for our nation.”

Gates open at North Hempstead Beach Park at 3 p.m. The program is scheduled to start at 6:30 with the fireworks igniting at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Vehicles will be charged a $10 parking fee (cash only). When the lot is full, free overflow parking will be available at Kiss Products, 25 Harbor Park Drive, Port Washington, with a free shuttle bus to the park.

Free parking is provided for veterans and active-duty military. These free parking passes are available only with proof of ID and will be issued at the following locations:

Clinton G. Martin Park – 1601 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park

Office of the Town Clerk – 200 Plandome Road, Manhasset

North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center – 141 Garden Street, Westbury

Michael J. Tully Park – 1801 Evergreen Avenue, New Hyde Park

The rain date for the Memorial Day weekend event will be Sunday, May 25.
