SYOSSET, NY — In an effort to encourage residents to donate blood, County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold Drucker is leading a blood drive next week.

"As Long Island’s blood emergency continues, it is more important than ever for all of us who are able to roll up their sleeves and be a part of the solution," Drucker said.

It takes place from 1-7 p.m at the Syosset Fire Department on Cold Spring Road.

Eligible donors must have an ID with a signature or a photo, weigh at least 110 pounds, have had no tattoos in the last 12 months and be ages 16-75 years of age (16-year-old donors must have parental consent. Donors over age 76 must bring a doctor’s note.) O-negative and B-negative donors are especially needed in addition to all other blood types.

"Whether you are a routine donor, one who hasn’t given in a while or even a first-time donor, now is the time to make an amazin’ impact – and as a lifelong Mets fan, I am extremely grateful to my favorite team for partnering with us in this life-saving endeavor," Drucker said.

Appointments are preferred but not required. You can reserve a spot on the New York Blood Center's website.
