Nassau County Officer Dies From COVID-19; Fundraising Page Set Up

ELMONT, NY — A veteran Nassau County Police Officer reportedly died from COVID-19 complications.

Hector Nunez was a 16-year officer, who was based at the 5th precinct in Elmont.

According to the Fund the First site, Nunez contracted the coronavirus "in the course of his duties."

The fundraising page was created on Dec. 8 "to offset the costs of the funeral" and support the family.

Nunez is survived by his wife Jesenia and four children.

"His passing due to his illness has brought sadness and shock to everyone," the description states.

Nassau police did not comment on Nunez's death.
