Cops Nab Suspect In Elementary School Burglary In Westchester: Police

The burglary took place during the night of Sept. 8, at the Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School in Rye Brook, according to police.

RYE BROOK, NY — Police say they have nabbed the man believed to be behind a burglary at a Westchester County elementary school.

The Rye Brook Police Department says that on the night of Sept. 8, officers responded to the Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School, after receiving a report that the school had been burglarized.

As shown in a Rye Brook police "attempt to identify" flyer issued after the incident, the suspect, who was unidentified at the time, had stolen several electronic devices owned by the Blind Brook School District that night.

After an investigation by Rye Brook Police Department detectives, with the assistance of the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, and the Manchester Police Department (in Connecticut), authorities identified 34-year-old Jarrezz Edwards, of Manchester, as a suspect.

Rye Brook detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Edwards.

On Monday, Edwards was taken into custody by police in East Hartford, Connecticut on charges in that jurisdiction, and is awaiting extradition on the Rye Brook charges.

Police say the school burglary appears to have been a random act by Edwards, and that there is no ongoing danger or threat to the school or district.
