CPW’s Adult Social Club Relaunch – Hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Party
Oldest running social club for persons living with IDD in Westchester, Greenwich, and surrounding areas

RYE BROOK, NY – On Friday, March 15, 2024, from 7 – 9 pm, Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s Pioneer Club is relaunching after being paused for the COVID-19 pandemic, holding its first event of the year a St. Patrick’s Day Party and Membership Night. Hosted at the David G. Osterer Center in Rye Brook (on the border of Greenwich, CT) twice a month on Friday evenings, the Pioneer Club is an opportunity for adults ages 18 and older living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to get together, play games, meet new friends, and have fun. The club uniquely addresses the challenging social isolation that many experience. For more information visit https://cpwestchester.org/pioneer-social-club/.
In addition to the twice a month Friday night theme parties, where singing is popular and Bingo has become a crowd favorite, members of the longest-running social club of its kind in Westchester and Fairfield Counties look forward to the Annual Dinner Dance, often held at the Surf Club in New Rochelle, and a get-away weekend retreat, last held at the Villa Roma resort in the Catskills.
Lisa Ferri and Wendell Rones, Pioneer Club co-coordinators, have created a friendly, life-changing environment, one that evolves to meet the needs and requests of its members. The Club’s officers, elected by the membership of 100-plus individuals, assist with the planning and set-up of the events. They canvass the members regularly, asking for feedback, and give constructive suggestions to the venues that are visited.
CPW’s Pioneer Club formed nearly 70 years ago from a small group of individuals living with disabilities looking for social and recreational activities in their community, today boasts more than 100 members from Westchester and the surrounding area, including NYC, Connecticut and New Jersey.
