RYE, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Laura who nominated Matthew of Rye.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
In Sept. 2021, this Eagle Scout candidate led the Troops through the recovery of Rye Post Hurricane Ida. Most recently, this month, he has completed rebuilding the Pre-K playground that was washed away during that same hurricane. As part of his Eagle Project he fundraised, planned, developed and constructed a new permanent playground that will NOT wash away next time. With help from many volunteers and donors he led this project over several months. Now the children at the Rye YMCA have a beautiful new playground to enjoy! Great Job Matthew !
