RYE, NY — The Playland Beach will soon come to life for the summer, but this year, there will be a special nod to our "hometown heroes."

Playland has announced a new community program to honor local veterans that the amusement park says aligns with their vision for the park to be a place to "gather, share, and create new memories."

The historic amusement park is calling on the community to be a part of the "Playland Hometown Heroes Banner Program." Playland says that this program will serve as a living tribute in the community to honor veterans, past and present, throughout Westchester County and beyond by displaying personalized banners along the waterfront boardwalk, starting Memorial Day and continuing through Veterans Day.

"People have always been the foundation of the park. This program allows us to learn the story of our guests’ loved ones and provides an opportunity for each veteran and their family to know how grateful we, and the community, are for their sacrifices," Acting General Manager Barrett Byers said. "If you don’t have a veteran to honor, you can sponsor a banner for a family who can’t afford one."

Locals and visitors are encouraged to honor a veteran by purchasing the Hometown Heroes Package on the Playland website. Participants will be invited to be a part of a special event honoring participants, loved ones and the community, over Memorial Day weekend. All entries must be submitted by April 8.
