RYE, NY — Our furry friends can't ride the Dragon Coaster with us, but that doesn't mean they can't be part of the summer rite of passage at Playland Park in Rye.

Playland, in partnership with the Humane Society of Westchester, will be celebrating National Dog Lovers Day on Friday with a pet food drive.

For every donation of unopened pet food with purchase of admission, guests will receive a voucher for a free hot dog. Donations of unused dog toys and treats will also be accepted. The pet food drive will begin at noon and last until 11 p.m. Donations will be collected at the park ticket windows.

Sorry, regulations mean our canines are not allowed in the park, but the dogs that earn an extra treat thanks to the special drive should more than make up for the sad trombone sound of the "No Dogs Allowed" sign.
