Rye Police on Extra Patrol After Boston Explosions

Police are still considering any changes in patrol for upcoming weekend events.

In response to the tragic Boston bombings yesterday, the Rye Police Department implemented extra patrol and period checks of sensitive areas, including the train station, utility facilities, houses of worship, schools and the village area, said Police Commissioner William Connors.

Officials will hold a meeting Wednesday to review upcoming events and discuss whether any additional patrols or changes in regular police coverage will be necessary, Connors said.

This Saturday will be a busy day all over Rye while residents celebrate Earth Day by participating in a series of “Rye Rocks Earth Day” events. Events will be held at the Rye Arts Center, Rye Town Park, The Rye Nature Center, Village Green and several other popular places around town. Organizers have not announced any changes at this time.

We will post here if we hear of any changes for either of these events.
