RYE, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Laura who nominated Daniel, a Rye High School Senior.

Eagle Scout Daniel created an interactive trail that offers much more than meets the eye.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Eagle Scout !!

With a concentration on community and service, Daniel built a unique all-inclusive Eagle Scout project for the Rye Recreation Dept. titled "Lilibet Lane." Daniel is making news all over town with his unique and interactive Eagle project. What started out as a simple exercise trail has turned into something very special.

One of his goals for the project was to make it as inclusive as possible for all children. He created posts around the trail, each with a different exercise depicted on a metal plaque. He took great care in ensuring each child depicted on the plaques were different genders and ethnicities (not such an easy task when working with stick figures). He also included Braille in the design for the visually impaired. If a child is not physically able to do the exercises (wheelchair) they can still participate as the plaques can also be used for pencil rubbings. This was all part of the plan.

What happened next was truly special.

During the install of this Eagle project, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed awav. As Daniel’s way to honor her, he wrote a fictional short story of a young queen and a General (Robert Baden Powell) who go on a trek together. The story follows the path of the trail posts!! As the child reads the story of the adventure, there is space on each page for them to add their pencil drawing. It's an amazing story and really adds so much to the project. He named the story and the trail
"Lilibet Lane" (Lilibet was the queen's nickname).
