Police ID 14-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Crash

The teen was struck Saturday night, police say.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m. Sunday: Police have identified the 14-year-old boy who was killed as Davon Mention, of Ronkonkoma.

RONKONKOMA, NY – A 14-year-old boy died after being struck by two cars while riding his bicycle in Ronkonkoma Saturday night, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, 21-year-old Ryan Kiesel was driving a 2001 Jeep south on Lakeland Avenue near Union Parkway when the Jeep struck a bicyclist at about 8:10 p.m.

Ryan Reilly, a passenger in the Jeep, exited the vehicle to help the boy. A 2015 Nissan Altima then struck Reilly, 20, and the 14-year-old boy, who was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Reilly, of Bohemia, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with minor injuries.

Kiesel, of Sayville and the driver of the Altima, 39-year-old Stephen Owenburg, of Ronkonkoma, remained at the scene and were not injured. The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

The name of the teen who was killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
