2 Pedestrians Crossing Roadway Struck, Killed In Hit-And-Run In Suffolk: Police

One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died at Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk police said.

FARMINGVILLE, NY — Two people were struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Farmingville Friday night, Suffolk police said.

At around 11:20 p.m., Ekrem Sahinbey Polat and Battal Koc were crossing the roadway in front of a shopping center on Horseblock Road, when they were struck by a vehicle that took off, heading northwest on Horseblock Road, according to police.

The shopping center has a gym, sports club, Chinese food restaurant, Portuguese market, bakery, and cell phone retailer.

Polat, 27, of Middle Island, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, while Koc, 38, of Bay Shore, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The vehicle that took off was described as a light-colored SUV, according to police.
