Vote for Sachem Mom to Win Mother's Day Spa Visit

Karen Portz, a Sachem alum from the Class of 1994, recently entered her mother into a concert for a Mother’s Day Spa Getaway at East Wind Inn and Spa.

From Karen: “For those of you who are voting and don’t know her, I would like to tell you a little about my mom. She is someone who always has a kind word to say about everyone. She doesn’t get involved in drama and she is the first one to tell you that you’re not being nice if you talk about someone. She always made all of our sports games, even if it meant dropping me off at softball, talking my brother Tommy to hockey and making sure my sister Kristen got to her baseball game. None of us can ever remember a time that she was not in the stands for us, yelling and clapping like only a mom can.

“Two years ago I got really sick. She dropped everything and was down here to take care of me. She was so scared but she never showed it, so that I wouldn’t be scared. She not only took care of me but she took care of my kids, Chris and Emily. My mom never wants a thank you, she never looks for recognition and she never expects anything. The bottom came out from under us. Hearing my mom say that her son died is something I would have given anything to never have heard her say that. The pain we feel is one I would never wish on anyone, but as a mom myself, I can’t imagine how empty my mom feels and how much more she hurts.”
