Arrest Made In Hit-And-Run That Seriously Injured Teen E-Bike Rider In Lake Ronkonkoma: PD
A woman was making a left turn when she struck a teenager on an electric bike and then drove away, police say.
LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — A Lake Ronkonkoma woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run the previous night that seriously injured a teenage electric bike rider, Suffolk police said.
Virginia Waka, 47, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, police said. She was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
A 13-year-old boy was riding an electric bicycle northbound on Hawkins Avenue when he was struck by a southbound 2012 white Ford Fusion as it turned left onto School Street at approximately 8:30 p.m., police said. Waka continued traveling eastbound on School Street, police said.

The teenager was brought to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.
