HOLTSVILLE, NY — The Town of Brookhaven Highway Department's annual Holiday Light Spectacular at the Holtsville Ecology Center has been canceled due to a combination of failed heating and a water main break, Superintendent Dan Losquadro said.

The cancelation is due to "the untimely failure" of a heating system, coupled with a water main break directly below one of the center's buildings, which forced officials to make the "extensive and necessary repairs," he said.

The announcement was made Monday on the town's website.

"We are very disappointed as much as you are by this change of plans but next year’s light show 'Spectacular' will be bigger, brighter, and better than ever," Losquadro said.

"Our staff is working extra hard to put together a whole new experience for our annual tree lighting."

The tree lighting is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.

Losquadro advised revelers to arrive early as parking inside the site fills up quickly.

"As always, Santa will be arriving by helicopter and the Holtsville Fire Department will be on hand to bring him right to the stage," he said. "Come ring in the season with performances by local dance teams, as well as the Longwood School District Harp Ensemble."

The event will include Christmas carols, free hot chocolate, and "some great new visual effects," according to Losquadro.

There will also be the opportunity to buy photos with Santa in our scaled-down Winter Wonderland.

"We are excited to see you all for the tree lighting event on Dec. 6," he said. "Stay tuned for updates on a better-than-ever light show next year."
