A member of the Selden Fire Department has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY)

Lifelong Selden resident Peter U. Cincotta was elected at FASNY’s 147th Annual Convention on August 10 in Syracuse. This is Cincotta’s second time serving as trustee and will serve a five-year term.

Cincotta has been a part of the Selden Volunteer Fire Department since he was a 16-year-old Junior Firefighter in 1979. Since becoming a full-fledged volunteer firefighter in 1982, he served on the SVFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau and as Captain in 1985. Cincotta has been the department’s fire house attendant since 1994, a position that requires responsibility for anything from community relations to physical maintenance of the department’s facilities. Cincotta served on FASNY’s Youth in the Fire Service Committee for three years. As a Trustee of the Home, Cincotta will stay up to date on and address the needs of the residents and help oversee the day-to-day operations with other members of the Board of Trustees.

“I am honored to have again been elected to be a trustee of the Firemen’s Home and to be able to continue my service as a chaplain,” Cincotta said. “Overseeing the wellbeing of firefighters who have served their communities has been, and continues to be, a rewarding experience.”

The FASNY Firemen’s Home started more than 100 years ago as a refuge for firefighters in need with no safe place to live and has become a fully licensed and certified residential healthcare facility. It provides members with rehabilitation and therapy and is well known for nurturing the camaraderie unique to the fire service. Located in Hudson, the Firemen’s Home also serves as the grounds for the Museum of Firefighting as well as the Firefighter’s Memorial. The home additionally houses a chapel presenting interdenominational services and opportunity for reflection.
