LI Police Plan Super Bowl Boycott Over Snoop Dogg Halftime Show
Suffolk PBA won't watch game: "Halftime is a great moment to shut your TV off in honor of those men and women who gave their lives for us."

LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Island law enforcement supporters continued in a trend this week lashing out at the NFL's pick of Snoop Dogg to perform in the halftime show, citing songs that have been labeled derogatory towards police.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Suffolk County's Police Benevolent Association's leadership said its members would be boycotting the big game, and decried Dogg's spot in the show, saying that "encouraging people to shoot police officers apparently earns you a spot as a headliner at the [Super Bowl]."
"If you choose to watch the game at all, (we won't be) halftime is a great moment to shut your TV off in honor of those men and women in blue who gave their lives for us," the post continued above a Feb. 3 letter, which was penned by Williston Park attorney Anthony Capetola calling for the NFL to drop the rapper from the show, as well as Constellation Brands as a spokesman hawking their brands.

Capetola wrote William Newlands, president and chief executive officer of Constellation Brands, which owns products like Svedka Vodka and Robert Mondavi wine, calling it outrageous that he is still employed by them despite a recent anti-cop song that was released Jan. 22, one day after New York Police Department police officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora were shot.
Rivera died on Jan. 21 and Mora on Jan. 25.

Snoop Dogg, who is no stranger to controversy, released "Police” with fellow rapper J5 Slap and two other artists featuring lyrics and it included an introduction that does not feature him, The Washington Times reported.
The introduction's lyrics encourage listeners to take the guns that they are "using to shoot each other" and start shooting these b---- a-- motherf------p olice."
"That’ll impress a motherf----- n------- like me, the crooked mother-------," the lyrics continue. "Cause these police getting way too motherf----- outta line."
"Long story short, and especially in light of the killings of two young police officers in New York City, it is outrageous that you would use this entertainer to promote your brand," wrote Anthony Capetola in the fuming letter.
The letter goes on to call on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to pull Dogg from the halftime show.
"We can no longer sensationalize hurting our men in blue, who protect our families, with this reckless conduct," the letter ends.
The letter was copied to the NYPD's brass, as well as Long Island's law enforcement officials and unions, including Suffolk and Nassau.
Dogg is set to perform in the halftime show in a lineup that includes Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.
