LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service has upped its snow total estimates for Long Island for a late week storm that could impact schools and make for a treacherous commute.

The island is now expected to see 4-6 inches of snow Friday.

"Timing has the bulk of the snow falling late Thursday night into early Friday morning, with advisory level snowfall likely across the forecast region, with the highest totals across northeastern New Jersey, New York City and Long Island," the weather service's New York office said in a forecast discussion Tuesday evening.
