Man, 20, Caught Driving 90MPH In Illegal Speed Contest On LIE Service Road: Sheriff
He had a suspended license and an active warrant for reckless driving, Suffolk Sheriff Errol Toulon says.
FARMINGVILLE, NY — A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with taking part in an illegal speed contest on the service road of the Long Island Expressway in Farmingville on Wednesday, Suffolk Sheriff Errol Toulon said.
The man, who is from Farmingville, was stopped by sheriff's deputies for speeding at around 90 MPH while racing another vehicle just before midnight, and he was caught with a suspended license and had an active warrant for reckless driving.
He was charged with engaging in an unlawful speed contest, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and the execution of the active warrant for reckless driving.

His vehicle was impounded due to its involvement in the illegal speed contest.
His attorney, Matthew Tuohy of Huntington, said the his client maintains his innocence and "we believe this will all be worked out."

Toulon commended the deputies for their swift response.
“Street racing is not only illegal but incredibly dangerous, putting both participants and drivers at risk," he said. "Our deputies remain vigilant in stopping reckless drivers and ensuring the safety of Suffolk County’s roadways. If you engage in illegal racing, you will be caught and held accountable."
Toulon's office is urging all drivers to obey traffic laws and report any observed reckless or dangerous driving behavior.
