Local Student Wins Essay Contest
Astoria Federal Savings hosts "Teach Children to Save" essay contest.

Naheen Iqra submitted the winning entry for this year’s Astoria Federal Savings annual essay contest for children.
Students from the ages 5-12, were asked to complete the statement: “If I save a lot today, in the future I could…”
A record number of essays – more than 1,300 – were received from neighborhood branches throughout Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn and Westchester.

Astoria Federal Savings judges selected one winner from each branch, and 12-year-old Naheen Iqra submitted the winning entry at the Farmingville Branch. Naheen’s winning essay describes how with his savings he plans to attend a prestigious college.
He visited the Astoria Federal Farmingville branch to receive his awards including a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, a Teach Children to Save Certificate, and an Education First medal from Branch Manager Jacqueline Schott.
