North's Coppola Headed to Adelphi for Lacrosse

Will join teammate George Raum at collegiate level.

Sachem North senior Paul Coppola has committed to play college lacrosse at Adelphi.

He is the seventh player from North’s roster to commit from the Class of 2012. Joining him at the next level of play are  (Rutgers),  (UMBC),  (Dowling),  (NYIT), and (NYIT), with more to come, according to Sachem coach Jay Mauro.

"Paulie plays with a ton of energy," Mauro said. "He's been a major contributor for three years. We expect a great year from Paul."

Coppola will join former Sachem teammate George Raum, who is in his freshman season, at Adelphi.

Adelphi, a Division II school, competes in the Northeast-10 Conference. Last season the Panthers finished 10-5 and were eliminated from conference play in the semifinals after losing to Merrimack, 14-3.

Other Sachem players have strapped on a Panthers jersey before, including two that are on the roster now. Junior midfielder Will Carrey is a Sachem North alum, while sophomore defender Nick Massaro played for Sachem East two seasons ago.

Mauro has created somewhat of a college lacrosse factory out of Sachem North over the last few seasons. Since the 2009 season alone there have been 24 players who have signed on to play lacrosse in college. Last season saw 10 players from the 2011 roster commit.
