Man Found Dead on Side of Sunrise Highway

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: Police have identified the man as 38-year-old David Banks, of Bay Shore.

UPDATE 10:30 a.m.: Police say an adult male was found on the side of Sunrise Highway, just west of Broadway, in Holbrook at about 5 a.m. The man, who police have not yet identified, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is under investigation.

A portion of westbound Sunrise Highway is closed Tuesday morning "due to police activity," Suffolk Police said.

The highway is closed between Exit 50–Lincoln Avenue and Exit 51–Nicolls Road. The westbound service road is also closed at Broadway Avenue in Holbrook.

The New York State Department of Transportation says the highway is closed because of a "pedestrian accident," but police have not confirmed this information.
