Ronkonkoma Fire Department Responds To House Fire

No one was injured.

The Ronkonkoma Fire Department responded to a house fire last week in which there were no injuries, fire officials said.

The department dispatched Chiefs 31 & 33, Engines 5, 10, and 12, Rescue 8, Ladder 11, Ambulances 1& 2, and Fire Police 3 and 13 to the fire on Dec. 29 around 8:30 a.m., officials said.

The first arriving unit was met with light smoke condition coming from the second floor of the residence, but upon further investigation one of the second floor windows blew out with heavy smoke pushing from it.

According to the Ronkonkoma Fire Department, Captain Jimmy Wilcken notified dispatch to reactivate as a working structure fire and initiate the pre-plan. Captain Wilcken assumed command of the incident until First Assistant Chief Kevin Murray arrived on scene.

Crews made entry to the residence and located the fire within minutes and initiated extinguishment operations while other crews performed a thorough search of the residence. The fire was contained to one room of the residence and extinguished quickly. The scene was deemed under control.
