Sachem Cross Country Challenge Set for August 27

Event ends Sachem's summer sessions, honors former Sachem coach.

SYAG, Saucony and the Tom Toscano Foundation will host the Sachem Cross Country (XC) Challenge on Saturday, August 27. 

The XC Challenge is a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) race that will take place on Sachem East’s home course. 

Open to runners of all ages and abilities, last year’s inaugural race drew 182 finishers, including two Kenyans and one Jordanian finishing in the top five.

The race is the culminating event of SYAG’s Summer Conditioning program aimed at preparing XC runners and other athletes for their fall seasons. This event, in which SYAG athletes compete in order to evaluate their fitness, is also open to both serious and recreational runners from Long Island and beyond. 

Expected this year are numerous Long Island club athletes including some from Rolling Thunder, Triple Crown Sports and the Greater Long Island Running Club.

St. Joseph’s College of Patchogue will be represented and The Running School will send a large contingent of high school athletes.
