Here are the top four stories in Sachem today:

  1. Six people were injured in two car crashes on Tuesday locally within 20 minutes. First, a Honda sedan and a Chevy Suburban collided at the intersection of Holbrook Road and Portion Road in Centereach at about 8:24 p.m., injuring one adult and three children. In the second crash, a car struck a Holbrook home injuring two people on Holly Lane. (Patch)
  2. Suffolk police released the name of the woman who died after a van burst into flames in Coram earlier this month. Hameedei Saad, 41, of Mount Sinai, was unable to escape the burning vehicle on County Road 83. (Patch)
  3. Two men have now been charged with a recent Coram murder. Branzel Bonner Jr., 25, of Shirley was found shot to death in the woods on Dec. 2. Marcus Reid, 23, of Riverhead, was arrested on Dec. 13 and Monique Brown, 28, also of Riverhead, was arrested on Tuesday. (Patch)
  4. Suffolk County plans to sell parts of a Port Jefferson Station Superfund site to recoup more than $17 million in unpaid back taxes and keep some of it for a possible railroad yard or train station. Lawrence Aviation Industries, a shuttered airplane parts manufacturing company on Sheep Pasture Road, contains polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), asbestos and other hazardous materials.
