Here are the top four stories in Sachem today:
- A fight between teens and a trash can being knocked over prompted 911 calls at the Smith Haven Mall on Monday. Officers responded to Smith Haven Mall at 4:34 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported possible shots fired but there were no confirmed gun shots. (Patch)
- The second annual Patchogue Plunge, hosted by the Patchogue Young Professionals, will take place on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 13. This year's plunge will benefit the Gabby Petito Foundation. (Patch)
- On Monday, there was confusion when people showed up to a new COVID-19 testing site in Hauppauge. The site was due to open Wednesday but some people had confirmed appointments with confirmation emails, text messages and even QR codes. (News 12)
- Former New York Police Department chief Rodney Harrison started his new job in Suffolk on Monday, and became the first Black police commissioner in the county's history. (Patch)
