LONG ISLAND, NY — Snow Wednesday morning threatens to turn Long Island roadways into a slushy mess.
An inch or two of snow could accumulate before the white stuff mixes with rain by mid-morning, the National Weather Service says.
There's about a 35 percent chance of more than an inch of snow accumulation, according to weather service snow estimate maps.

"The biggest challenge with this event is how much snow will accumulate and on what surfaces it will be able to accumulate on," the weather service's New York said in a forecast discussion Tuesday night. "The snow will be battling above freezing surface temps and also the higher sun angle of early/mid March."
