Town-By-Town LI Snow Estimates: Near-Blizzard Conditions Possible
There remains "high uncertainty" with the storm's track, but it's clear the island will see considerable impacts this weekend.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A powerful nor'easter could bury Long Island in a foot of snow this weekend. The latest snow estimates from the National Weather Service call for 8-12 inches in Nassau County and western Suffolk County and 12-18 inches in eastern Suffolk.
Snow will overspread the area Friday night and potentially become moderate to heavy late at night into Saturday, before tapering off in the late afternoon/evening hours from west to east, the weather service says. The snow could fall at a rate of 1-2 inches an hour during the day Saturday.
Gusty north winds are expected to quickly ramp up with sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts of 40-55 mph.

The heavy snow and wind may cause near-blizzard conditions, especially on the East End where the strongest winds are likely. Winter storm watches and warnings will almost certainly be issued for the island Thursday.
Minor to moderate coastal impacts are also possible for eastern portions of the island and vulnerable north-facing coastal communities along Long Island Sound and the Great South Bay for the Saturday into Sunday high tides.

There remains an unusual amount of uncertainty in snow total amounts with the storm two days away, the weather service says. There's a 10 percent chance of more than 20 inches of snow on the island and also a 10 percent chance of just an inch or two.
