Winter Storm Nears: What To Expect On Long Island

The first accumulating snow of the season is likely to fall Sunday and Monday on the island. See the latest snow total estimates.

A major winter storm will bury parts of the Northeast under a foot of snow Sunday and Monday. Long Island, though, is expected to get a mere fraction of that.

Snow is likely Sunday morning on the island, but it should turn to rain after a few hours. An inch or less of snow accumulation is expected, the National Weather Service says.

It could then very well be raining non-stop from Sunday afternoon until Monday evening when the rain will change back to snow on the island. About an inch of snow is likely to accumulate. Not much, but there's a chance snow will still be falling during the Tuesday morning commute.

In total, 1-4 inches of snow is predicted for Long Island over the next couple of days. Northwest Nassau County should be on the high end of those numbers while the East End will likely be on the low end.
