Firefighters Extinguish Trash Fire On LI Street: Police
Long Island firefighters extinguished flames that broke out in debris dumped by a garbage truck in the middle of the road, police say.
BAYPORT, NY — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out in a load of trash dumped on the street by a garbage truck on Tuesday, Suffolk County police told Patch.
Police said Fifth Precinct officers received the call around 8 a.m. Upon arrival, they found debris on fire that had been dumped on Purick Street.
Bayport Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

"The contents of a garbage truck were dispensed on the street and burning," fire department officials said. "In below-freezing temperatures, the BFD went to work, and fire was put out."
Mutual aid was provided by the Holbrook Fire Department.
