Man Hit And Killed By LIRR Train Near Sayville: MTA

A Medford man was killed after being hit by a Long Island Railroad train west of Sayville on Tuesday, the MTA says.

SAYVILLE, NY — A man was killed after being struck by a train near Sayville on Tuesday morning, MTA officials told Patch.

Christopher Reitzel, 23, of Medford, was on the train tracks without authorization west of the Sayville station when he was struck by LIRR train 64 around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, officials said.

He was removed from the scene by EMS and transferred to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead and his family was notified, an MTA rep told Patch.

As a result of this incident, the Montauk Branch service was suspended between Oakdale and Sayvillee until 12:20 p.m., when it resumed with residual delays, LIRR officials said.
