Nolan: Move Vehicles North of Montauk Highway
Town lifts restrictions on municipal parking lots to get automobiles off the streets and help with post-storm clean-up.
As Hurricane Irene approaches the South Shore of Long Island, Islip Supervisor is urging residents living in low-lying areas to move their vehicles north of Montauk Highway.
The Town is lifting all overnight parking restrictions in all Islip owned parking lots. Vehicles need to be removed from residential streets in order to facilitate storm clean up.
“We are going to need the cooperation of our residents to ensure as quick a clean-up as possible after this major storm,” Nolan said. “It is also vital that all residents move their vehicles into their driveways or a public lot in order to keep them clear for emergency vehicles and clean-up crews.”

He said that once it becomes safe for Town Public Works crews to hit the streets, pay-loaders would begin to clean-up the hardest hit areas. If trees and debris are blocking a roadway, residential vehicles may make the road impassable, causing a longer clean-up for residents.
Islip officials have previously issued a mandatory evacuation for Town residents living south of Montauk Highway and for those on Fire Island.
