Sayville High School Student Named National Merit Semifinalist

The 2021 crop of semifinalists for the scholarship were announced on Wednesday.

SAYVILLE, NY —A Sayville High School student has been named a semi-finalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Gene W. Weng, of West Sayville, is one of 16,000 high school seniors from across the country to be named as a semi-finalist.

The semi-finalists were announced on Wednesday who will go on to compete for the scholarships next spring. Half will go on to win a scholarship, becoming a Merit Scholar.

Semi-finalists are chosen from their scores in the 2020 PSATs, and less than one percent of students will qualify.
