Suffolk Police Honors Two Brothers For 40 Years of Volunteering

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY —Two brothers were honored by the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD)for 44 years of volunteering with the Auxiliary Police. Gary Siska is a practicing attorney in Oakdale and his brother is an attorney in Bayport. They both joined the Auxiliary Police in 1978 in Islip and are still donating their time and efforts.

Suffolk Police Acting Police Commissioner Stuart Cameron honored the two men at a recent meeting, who said they plan to continue their volunteerism in the coming years, according to the SCPD.

Gary was the Commanding Officer of the Third Precinct Unit for 13 years and Warren was the Operations Lieutenant. In 2105 they were promoted to Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of the Fifth Precinct.

“The changes we have seen in the program over the years have been phenomenal. The excellent working relationships and the opportunities we have received make this volunteer service unique,” Warren Siska said in a news release from the SCPD.

“It is an honor and privilege to assist the police officers and help the residents of Suffolk County.”

“The training we receive is second to none, and the knowledge and experience gained during the last 43 years is unbelievable. But the most valuable thing we acquired over the years is the many friendships we have made,” Gary added.

The Suffolk County Auxiliary Police is made up of civilian volunteers who assist the police during times of disaster or as liasions for their communities. There are 200 members in Suffolk County, and they are trained by the department.
