5 Things to Do on Veterans Day

Parades, ceremonies and a buffet with veterans – all take place Friday.

Looking for something to do on Veterans Day? How about a parade? Maybe a ceremony on Main Street? Or you could take a local veteran out for lunch out of appreciation for their service to the country. You could do this and more – check out what's going on Friday.

1. Attend the . The ceremony, which begins at 10:45 a.m., will feature guests such as Rep. Tim Bishop, D – Southampton, Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio, and Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R – Nesconset.

2. Following the ceremony, a small buffet is open to ceremony attendees at American Legion Post 833 in Smithtown.

3. Attend the St. James Veterans Day Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue, and end at St. James Elementary.

4.Patch reader Valerie Manzo recommended via email that locals take a veteran out to lunch. A good meal and friendly company for someone who risked his or her life to preserve your freedom sounds like a pretty good idea.
