Afternoon Thunderstorms Cut Power to Hundreds in Smithtown

Sudden onslaught of afternoon thunderstorms cut offΒ electricity to hundreds of Smithtown areaΒ residents.

Long Island Power Authority is reporting 3,012 customers without power in Suffolk County after a string of afternoon thunderstorms, largely along the North Shore, struck on Friday, according to itsΒ outage map.

There are 328 households without electricity in Saint JamesΒ as of 2:20 p.m. with another 129 power outages reported in Smithtown.Β

Smithtown PatchΒ editor Jennifer Sloat reports theΒ traffic lights are out at Edgewood Road and North Country Road intersectionΒ in St. James.Β
