SMITHTOWN, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Jennifer Muilenburg who nominated her daughter, Lilly, of Smithtown.

How do you know the star local student?

Mother / Girl Scout leader

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Lilly is an amazing 3rd grader in the Hauppauge School District. She is an incredibly talented artist and has been published, entered art shows and won multiple awards. She is incredibly smart and academically, she is at the top of her class. She is also musically inclined and plays both the trumpet and the piano. She will be competing in her first NYSSMA competition this year. She ice skates and is quickly climbing the ladder to enter in to figure skating.

Not only am I her mother, but I am her Girl Scout leader and see her shining there, too. She is kind and friendly, and always a sister to every girl scout. She is one of the top sellers for both cookie and nut product sale campaigns for her 4th year straight, earning her multiple awards. She is a well rounded girl who has nothing holding her back.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Lilly is not only talented, she has such a kind heart and really stands up for what she believes in.
