  1. Lake Grove - Brittany was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and doctors, friends and even family members repeatedly said "I'm sorry" rather than "congratulations." Brittany’s Baskets of Hope, Inc. is dedicated to bringing information, support, guidance, and hope to families that are expecting or have newly welcomed a baby with Down syndrome into their lives.   2. With the Smithtown theater up for sale, a nonprofit looks to save it. The idea is not only to save Smithtown’s 90-year-old theater building, which is now up for sale, but the live entertainment and youth programs dependent on it.
