Here are the top four stories in Smithtown today:
- NYS Senator Mario Mattera calls out local community heroes to help save the historic Calderone Theatre in St. James. There will be a brunch on Sunday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are a suggested donation of $20 per person. (St. James Events)
- Speaking of local heroes, a Commack boy is working hard to help suicide prevention. Harold Teller, 13, raised $8,000 to be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention through his "Hoops for Hope," a basket tournament. It's important to highlight the work our youth has been doing to make our society a better place to live! If you would like to support this cause, donate here. (Patch)
- Long Island Newsday released an article about how Nesconset has attracted homebuyers due to its excellent school district and easy access to local parks. On top of that, the town recently approved an $8.7 million project to build an industrial complex on Lake Avenue South that is expected to host 30 companies. (Newsday)
- Mark Sunday, April 30, on your calendar to enjoy the Spring Village Fair at the Smithtown Historical Society. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., vendors will sell crafts, jewelry, wood objects, food, and more! For those interested in being a vendor, fill out a form at depasmarket.com. (Facebook Events)
