Here are the top stories today in Smithtown:

  1. The Town of Smithtown plans to make a push toward securing a path to upgraded sewer infrastructure in downtown Smithtown. The lack of sewers has stifled the potential of Smithtown's business district for decades, contributing to numerous vacant storefronts, the town stated. (Smithtown Patch)
  2. Adult intermediate ballet class in Ronkonkoma. These classes are for adults with previous ballet training and solid technique. Listen to wonderful classical music and enjoy the grace of classical ballet. The intermediate dancer can process more complicated sequences, can execute barre exercises with greater speed and accuracy and is expected to coordinate arm and leg movements smoothly. (LongIsland.com)
  3. Chambers of Hell is back in all its horrible Halloween glory. Recreational terror is a beloved Halloween staple for many, but Chambers of Hell, one of the country’s top-rated Halloween haunts located right here on Long island at 1745 Expressway Dr. North in Hauppauge, has a special knack for leaving its patrons unsure of whether or not what they’re witnessing is macabre theater or the real disturbing deal. Smithtown Patch Notebook

  • Sweetbriar Nature Center: "With so many babies to look after, mom opossums occasionally get separated from their joeys. One or two may fall of her back and are unable to keep up with her during nighttime foraging. These babies are still too young to be on their own so we will keep them for a few months until they are big enough to fend for themselves." (Facebook)
  • SSPJ School: "Nursery students pretending to be un pájaro! Thank you God for creating Birds!" (Facebook)
  • Smithtown Performing Arts Center: "Travel down any country road on Long Island this October and you are sure to come upon a farm stand overflowing with round pumpkins. But there’s only one place where you can find a square pumpkin by the name of Spookley who has an important message for all of us." (Facebook)
