Car Crashes Into Lake Grove Homes, Fence After Driver Mixes Up Gears: Police

An 80-year-old woman was hospitalized with after her SUV struck multiple properties Saturday morning, police say.

LAKE GROVE, NY — An 80-year-old woman was injured after her vehicle struck multiple homes and properties in Lake Grove on Saturday morning, according to police.

Police said the woman pulled her 2023 Honda SUV into the driveway of a home on Birch Street at approximately 10:35 a.m. on January 11. After parking, she attempted to straighten out the vehicle but mistakenly believed it was in reverse when it was actually in drive.

As a result, police said, the SUV struck the house at 63 Birch St.

The woman then shifted the vehicle into reverse and drove out of the driveway, across the street, where the SUV struck a fence and deck at 56 Birch St., police said.

Police said the woman then drove forward through her yard and into the yard of a home at 44 Washburn St., where the vehicle came to rest on a covered in-ground pool.

The driver was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. No other injuries were reported.
