Central Islip Man Shot Dead During Argument; Shooter Gets 25-To-Life: DA
Jeremias Anaribamoran fatally shot his acquaintance Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo three times during a verbal dispute, prosecutors say.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a man during an argument in Central Islip earlier this year, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said Thursday.
According to the DA's Office, Jeremias Anaribamoran, 48, who is a Honduran national, pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder, a Class A felony, for killing Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo, 40, on March 15.
Prosecutors said Anaribamoran and Godinez-Carcamo, who knew each other, had been socializing with two others throughout the day while drinking alcohol. Just before midnight, the two men began arguing while sitting in the back seat of a parked vehicle outside Godinez-Carcamo's home, the DA said. During the altercation, Anaribamoranpulled out a 9mm handgun and shot Godinez-Carcamo three times, according to court documents and the defendant's admissions in court.

Godinez-Carcamo ran to his nearby home, where Suffolk police officers and Central Islip Volunteer Ambulance Company responders attempted life-saving measures, the DA said. He was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Tierney said.
An autopsy revealed multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and right arm, authorities said.

Police arrested Anaribamoran three days later after surveillance of his home, the DA said.
Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis sentenced Anaribamoran to 25 years to life in prison on Oct. 23, Tierney said. Federal immigration officials have lodged a detainer to take custody and deport him following the completion of his sentence, the DA said.
"This senseless act of violence took Mr. Godinez-Carcamo's life," Tierney said. "Today's sentence will ensure that the defendant will no longer be a threat to public safety."
Anaribamoran was represented by attorney Katherine Fernandez, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
