SMITHTOWN, NY — As the summer heat continues, the Smithtown Fire Department is inviting community members to celebrate a taste of the holidays with a special Christmas in July event, the department announced.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 27.

Santa Claus is slated to make a rare summer appearance at noon that day. The jolly old elf will travel down Main Street on a Smithtown firetruck to bring early holiday cheer to local families.

In addition, the Smithtown Fire Department Recruitment Team will be present in the Uncle Giuseppe’s parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to speak with community members interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or EMT.

This marks the first time the Smithtown Fire Department is hosting a Christmas in July event.

"We get so much support from the Smithtown community in December when we do our annual parade that we thought we would surprise the town with a midyear event to keep the holiday spirit going," said Rick Torre, the department’s public information officer. "We get emails and handwritten letters all year long on how the December Christmas parade is a staple in Smithtown, and people cannot wait for the date for the next one."

The department prides itself on being a family-focused organization with members of all ages and backgrounds.

"This event brings together fun, family, and community engagement — everything the fire
department stands for," Torre said. "We hope to see many familiar faces and new ones, too!"
