There's no beating this week's heat wave in Smithtown, but there are some ways to make the best of it.
One idea is to take the kids and head down to Caleb Smith State Park practice one's fishing skills.
Jr. Angler's ages 15 and younger are invited to try their hand at catch and release fishing at Willow Pond within the park during fishing season, which is open from April 1 through Nov. 1. Anglers younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Junior anglers should use barb-less hooks only to more easily release the fish. Participants can sign in at the Nature Museum or Park Office.
Limitations include one trout, a foot or larger, four pan fish, bluegill fish or pumpkin seed and one large mouth bass, one foot or larger.
