  1. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announces Long Island Food, Beverage and Hospitality Job Fair. The Suffolk County Department of Labor and the Long Island Food Council will be hosting a Food, Beverage, and Hospitality Job Fair at Island Harvest in Melville on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. - noon.   2. Newsday endorses Wehrheim for Smithtown supervisor. When Republican Edward R. Wehrheim primaried Patrick Vecchio out of the 2017 Smithtown supervisor race, and then won the general election, it marked a huge change in leadership, but not a break in continuity.
    Vecchio had been town supervisor since 1977, and his 40 years in the role are believed to be a state record. But Wehrheim, 73, from Kings Park, started working at the town’s parks department in 1972, only retiring as director in 2003 to assume the council seat he’d just won.(Newsday)
  3. Smithtown Police Blotter: Car stolen from driveway. Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Squire Path in Smithtown. A person stole a 2017 Maserati parked in a driveway on Squire Road in Smithtown, police said. The keys were in the vehicle, police said. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. 2021 Haunted House Guide: The spooks and scares are back this year, and we've found the best professional and amateur haunts on the island. With the coronavirus on the minds of many people this fall, Halloween is still going to be different than in years past. However, more events are happening this year than in 2020.
