- A Commack resident was fatally struck by a van while jogging in the neighborhood. The incident happened on Thursday, around 8:20 a.m. A 44-year-old woman from Bay Shore drove the vehicle. Two other people were injured and transported to a local hospital. (Patch)
- Free Youth Baseball/Softball Clinic held a special event on Aug. 27 at the Daniel J. Flynn Memorial Park. More than 550 residents reunited to celebrate the league and to raise funds to help the Heros 4 Our Heroes Cause, which aims to renovate the Community Center at the Northport VA Medical Center. - This weekend is the St. James Farmers Market Day! Don't forget to stop by to support local vendors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to fresh produce and goodies, there will be live music, face painting, and other activities for all ages. The market is at 230 Second Ave. in St. James. (Smithtown Gov.)
- A 9/11 Naming Ceremony will be held on the corner of Gibbs Pond Road and Smithtown Boulevard on Sept. 16. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. All community members are invited to welcome new first responders in Smithtown. (Smithtown Chamber of Commerce)
