Live Results: Mattera Defeats Berland For NYS 2nd Senate District
Sen. Mario Mattera was re-elected to the state Senate. He declared victory, and Newsday called the race for him.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Incumbent Republican State Sen. Mario Mattera was re-elected after he defeated Democratic challenger Susan Berland for the NYS 2nd Senate District. Newsday officially called the race for Mattera.
Here are the live results, last updated at 10:55 a.m. 269 of 270 districts have reported results.
- Mario Mattera: 80,362 votes
- Susan Berland: 57,936 votes
Mattera declared victory in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning.

"The time has come to put politics aside and I am ready to work with anyone regardless of party on the issues that are important to the hardworking men and women of New York State," Mattera stated. "I look forward to working with everyone to make sure our state’s future is brighter than its past."
Suffolk County Board of Elections workers had difficulty loading memory cards needed to tally the vote, officials said late Tuesday.

The 2nd NYS Senate District includes Centereach, Commack, Coram, Deer Park, Dix Hills, East Northport, East Setauket, Farmingville, Fort Salonga, Greenlawn, Hauppauge, Huntington, Huntington Station, Kings Park, Lake Grove, Lake Ronkonkoma, Medford, Melville, Nesconset, Northport, Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Station, Ronkonkoma, Selden, Setauket, South Setauket, Smithtown, St. James and Stony Brook.
